RV AC Problems We Fix
Denver summers push rooftop RV air conditioners hard — 95° afternoons, intense high-altitude UV, and campground power that sags exactly when every rig on the loop is running AC. These are the failures we see most, on Dometic, Coleman-Mach, Furrion, and Advent units:
- AC runs but doesn't cool — weak capacitors, dirty coils, low refrigerant charge, or a failing compressor
- AC won't start at all — thermostat faults, control board failures, wiring and 12V supply problems
- Breaker trips or shore power drops — hard-starting compressors, shorted fan motors, undersized campground pedestals
- Loud rattles and vibration — worn fan motors, cracked fan shrouds, loose mounting bolts and gaskets
- Water dripping inside — clogged condensate drains and failed rooftop gaskets
Repair or Replace?
Many "dead" RV air conditioners come back to life with a $30 capacitor or a cleaned condenser coil — a fraction of the cost of a new unit. When a compressor is truly gone, we'll say so, quote a replacement rooftop unit, and install it at your site, including the ceiling assembly and thermostat. Either way, you get a straight answer before any money is spent.
Camping tip: at Denver-area campgrounds above 5,000 ft, a soft-start kit lets most 13.5k–15k BTU units run on a 30A pedestal or even a portable generator without tripping. We install them on-site.
